Monsoon Thunderstorms Throughout the Area


The motion of moist, unstable Southwest Monsoon air into the Northwest didn’t disappoint: as proven by the 24h lightning map ending 1 AM this morning, many tons of of lightning strokes have been noticed over the area.

There have been a number of bands of thunderstorms and lightning.  One was alongside the coast and one other moved up japanese Oregon and actually hit onerous round Walla Walla and much SE Washington.   A slim band of boomers crossed Tacoma into Vashon Island.

The monsoon moisture plume…directed from the desert southwest..was evident within the water vapor satellite tv for pc picture from yesterday morning (5 AM Wednesday)

The dew factors…an excellent measure of atmospheric water vapor content–were very excessive over japanese Washington, getting up into the mid-60s in parts of japanese WA, japanese Oregon, and Idaho (see beneath for midday on Wednesday).  That is unusually excessive for the usually dry area. 



In the present day the moisture plume has slowly shifted eastward (see satellite tv for pc picture from tonight).


Consequently, the one thunderstorms this afternoon in our space have been positioned over the far japanese facet of Washington and Oregon (see radar picture from tonight).   A few of them had heavy rain or hail (purple colours).


In response to the most recent mannequin run, the monsoon moisture and related thunderstorms will transfer even farther eastward tomorrow, with the forecast for five PM Friday exhibiting the thunderstorms over Idaho and japanese Monday (see beneath)

A dry weekend is forward with warming temperatures!
