Little Simz wins the 2022 Mercury Prize


Little Simz wins the 2022 Mercury PrizeRapper and actress Simbiatu Ajikawo aka Little Simz wins the distinguished award.

Little Simz was introduced as the general winner of the 2022 Mercury Prize for her fourth self-released album Generally I May Be Introvert. The DIY artist from North London was nominated for the award beforehand together with her 2019 full-length work Gray Space.

The award ceremony was held on the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, and hosted by Lauren Laverne. Visitor presenter Jamz Supernova introduced the general winner on behalf of the judging panel.

Little Simz collected the winner’s trophy and a cheque for £25,000 after which carried out a tune from the profitable album ‘Generally I May be Introvert’.

Mercury Prize is Simz’s second award this 12 months after she received greatest new artist on the Brit awards in February. The 2022 record of nominees included Gwenno, Fergus McCreadie, Harry Types, Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler, Pleasure Crookes, Kojey Radical, Nova Twins, Sam Fender, Self Esteem, Moist Leg, Yard Act.
