4 stars

The star of this story is Jymn, a 13 yr previous boy who has lived nearly all his life on board a ship, in slavery with the promise of having the ability to ‘repay his debt’ and be free in some unspecified time in the future sooner or later.  His life is tough, together with his eye deformity that provokes mockery from his friends, and a eating regimen of solely salt-rice.  However, he’s a tough employee, a proficient engineer, and never one to let hostile circumstances get him down.

The ebook is about a few years after an apocalyptic occasion in our future, and the methods of the previous world are gone, save for treasures to be scavenged, and the intriguing stays of the ‘teck’ (know-how, although they don’t know this phrase).  The world constructing is intricate with out being too detailed, and evokes photos within the thoughts.  Life adjustments for Jymn when his ship comes into contact with The Archon, a vessel carrying pirates.

The additional I learn, the extra the ebook gave the impression to be meant for the youthful finish of the YA market, which was not obvious from the blurb or its classes on Amazon.  It’s a rip-roaring, imaginative journey, well-written, and a narrative I might have liked after I was about twelve, although it does come throughout as a type of ‘tales for youngsters of all ages’, just like the Narnia and Harry Potter books, in that it may be loved by adults too.

A advantageous debut, and I liked the post-apocalyptic side, although I doubt I belong inside the meant demographic.

E book description:

On a map redrawn by the rampant sea-level rise of the twenty-second century, survivors struggle over the ruins of high-ground while pirates and slavers plague the huge new seas that encompass them.

However amidst the ashes of the world there stays a spot for the younger and the courageous to name dwelling: The Archon — a ship crewed by orphan thieves, escaped prisoners, and heretic runaways.

They’re the Archonauts, and that is their story.
